Remember the snazzy-looking Nokia E5 that was announced back in April? It’s finally in the Philippines for a SRP of PhP 14,950. For those who aren’t familiar with this device, the Nokia E5 is designed to meet social networking needs and the professional needs of the busy, hardworking urbanite. It’s equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard with comprehensive push email services for your corporate (Microsoft Mail for Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes Traveller) and consumer (Ovi Mail, Yahoo! Mail, Gmail and Windows Live Hotmail) email accounts. It also supports consumer IM (Yahoo Messenger, GTalk and Nokia Ovi Chat) as well as corporate IM (Microsoft Office Communicator). You can browse both the internet and the intranet and read and edit Microsoft documents.

Aside from these features, the E5 comes with Ovi Maps to help you find your way in the world and Ovi Store so you can shop for the latest free apps to boost your productivity and games to pass the time. Finally, the E5 also has a 5 megapixel camera and promises fast internet connection of 3.5G and WLAN. Comes in carbon black and chalk white and is available at all Nokia Stores and authorized retailers nationwide.

Comparing Nokia E5 and Nokia E72

Nokia E5 is cheaper (by about 5000 pesos)

Nokia E5 comes with 2GB and Nokia E72 comes with 4GB memory card.

E5 comes in only 2 colors (Black and White) and E72 has 5 (Black, Grey, Brown, White, Amethyst).

E5 has a 5-way Navi Key and E72 has the option of using the Navi Key as a scroll pad or a finger powered optical mouse.

E72 has a more premium appearance because it uses more metal covers, and E5 has a only the metal back cover.

The new Nokia E72 was unveiled at the Nokia Connection 2009 in Singapore yesterday and was described to be “swift, slim, and resourceful.” This is the cellphone that I will definitely buy when it is released in the third quarter of this year.

Based on its best-selling predecessor, the Nokia E71, the latest in the Nokia E-series family maintains the essential elements of the E71 and a lot of improvements in various areas. For instance, the home screen easily directs you to where you can set up your instant messaging account. After a few quick and easy steps, you can connect to your favorite IM services like Google Talk, Yahoo! Messenger, and Ovi. The Nokia E72 also has a new optical navigation key for fast panning of images and more intuitive menu scrolling.

These new features are complemented with Nokia’s email services that come with a lifetime license for Nokia mobile email, Nokia Messaging, and onboard clients for IBM Lotus Notes Traveler and Mail for Exchange. Through an improved on-device email setup, accessing popular email accounts like Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, and Ovi is easy to integrate with the user’s corporate email accounts.

Other performance improvements include faster Internet upload and download speeds and a new version of Quickoffice that’s compatible with Microsoft Office 2007. Besides these additions, the Nokia E72 also provides other convenient features like the A-GPS and compass with integrated Maps (includes lifetime walk and 10 days of turn by turn navigation), and noise cancellation for clearer phone calls.

Expect the Nokia E72 by the third quarter of 2009. Price is expected to be around 22,000 pesos before taxes.

I am right now in Singapore for the Nokia Connection 2009 and I am just overwhelmed at the number of Nokia models surrounding me. I will write more on these Nokia models but for now, let me introduce you to the new Nokia smartphones we can expect over the next couple of months.

Nokia released several new smart phones as part of their commitment to deliver compelling mobile solutions that can be personalized by users. The event began with a keynote presentation by Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer Mary McDowell, who described Nokia’s vision of a world where people are “empowered to share and connect with what matters to them through highly personalized and contextually relevant solutions.”

To make this vision a reality, Nokia provides technology, services, and new devices to Singapore and its neighbors. Vice President of Sales in the SEAP region Chris Carr says that the emerging markets of Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Vietnam are already accessing the internet from mobile phones – and Nokia played a pivotal role in this development.

Nokia E72

The latest in the E-series lineup is the new Nokia E72, a full QWERTY smartphone that brings a rich mobile email and IM experience for those who want to connected and productive in their personal and professional lives. Like its predecessor, the Nokia E71, the Nokia E72 can set up IM accounts provided by Nokia Messaging. Once the account is set up, device owners can connect to their favorite instant messaging accounts like Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk, and Ovi. The Nokia E72 will be shipping in the third quarter of 2009.

Nokia 5530

Music lovers will go gaga over the new Nokia 5530 XpressMusic phone. Following the footsteps of the popular Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, this compact device uses a touch-screen interface for accessing content and contacts on the crystal clear home screen. Featuring one-touch shortcuts to popular social networks like Facebook and direct access to contacts and their media updates, the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic phone will be an indispensable to this generation. The Nokia 5530 will ship by the third quarter of 2009 in five brilliant colors.

Nokia 3710 Fold

The Nokia 3710 Fold is a clamshell phone that balances ergonomic design with the latest in mobile functionality. This simple mobile phone provides a range of Ovi services on a familiar user interface, so that consumers can easily share their photos, check out their friends’ updates, and explore new content and services. The Nokia 3710 Fold will be available in the fourth quarter of 2009.
