That up there is their new C9000 3D HDTV and yes, it really is that slim! It has 3D support, a number of USB and HDMI slots on the base, and the remote can even function as a mini smartphone that views streaming media from other sources. No word on the actual dimensions and price of this fine gadget, but I bet it will cost thousands of dollars and dominate a living room.

CES 2010 hasn’t officially begun yet, but manufacturers are starting to announce new products to get consumers all excited. Asus just unveiled a whole bunch of new notebook and netbooks, including two new lines – the K-Series and N-Series. The N-Series is part of Asus’s USB 3.0 solutions – it comes with USB 3.0 ports, has SonicMaster audio technology, and can be fitted with Intel Core i3, i5, and i7 processors. The K-Series has some sort of sensor that can tell the difference between a balm and finger on the trackpad. If it senses a palm, the cursor will not move.

There’s also a fashionable Asus Eee PC netbook to look forward to this year. Asus and designer Karim Rashid came up with a new Asus Eee PC Seashell that reflects Karim’s vision of computing – one that is more human, sensual, and hip. It features fluid waves, an ergonomic chiclet keyboard that’s soft to the touch, a frameless 10.1″ LED backlit display, and the new power-saving Intel Atom N450 CPU together with Asus’s exclusive Super Hybrid engine energy management technology. A single charge will deliver up to six hours of battery life. The Karim Rashid Eee PC Seashell also has Express Gate, an ancillary OS that boots up in seconds to give you near access to the Internet. Will be available in Hot Pink and Coffee Brown.

This mean machine is powered by an Intel Core i7 processor, has DirectX 11 capable ATI Radeon HD5870 graphics, up to 8GB of DDR3 system memory, 8-channel HD audio with EAX 4.0 compatibility, and 1TB of storage space for gaming and other tasks.
Remember when I said that CES 2010 will be showcasing 3D HDTVs? It turns out that Samsung is one of the companies who will be releasing a 3D device lineup. For these innovations, the Consumer Electronics Association awarded Samsung with 23 CES 2010 Innovation Awards, including three Best of Innovations: three eco-design honors, three LED HDTVs, one Plasma HDTV, three Blu-ray players, one home theater system, two digital audio players, two digital cameras, one refrigerator, six mobile phones and one monitor for multi display. That’s a lot of awards!

But I’m interested in 3D technology, as this is clearly going to revolutionize home entertainment. This year, Samsung will be delivering the first complete 3D ecosystem, with an advanced 3D television, sophisticated 3D Blu-ray player, stylish active shutter 3D glasses and a home theater system. The full 3D product lineup includes the LED 9000, LED 8000 and LED 7000 as well as LCD and plasma televisions and Blu-ray players. These all are compatible with multiple 3D standards including half and full HD resolution formats, as well as the Blu-ray Disc Associate ratified “Blu-ray 3D” standard. So consumers will know that all their 3D devices will work together perfectly. Samsung will deliver the industry’s best 3D image quality due to its custom-designed 3D chip from Samsung’s semiconductor division. To customize the home viewing experience, Samsung also unveiled Samsung Apps, the world’s first HDTV-based application store. Users can download and purchase applications from select 2010 Samsung HDTVs, Blu-ray Players and Home Theater systems via the upgraded Internet@TV feature.

Santa, I think I know what I want for Christmas this year.

With the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show just days away, sneak peeks and previews of the gadgets to be unveiled are slowly popping up all over the Internet. Below are just some of the devices I’m looking forward to seeing.

Tiny desktops

I’m a desktop user through and through, and I love that desktops these days come in such tiny sizes. The Acer Aspire Revo R3610, for instance, provides a complete home theater experience and can be hooked onto the back of your LCD monitor. CES 2010 should showcase a number of these miniature desktops, along with the latest chips from nVidia and Intel.

3D HDTVs

I’d love to own an HDTV, but I bet I can only afford one by the time 3D HDTVs become commercially available. In CES 2009, 3D HDTVs were just concept novelty items, but it’s looking like HDTV manufacturers are serious about coming out with developing 3D technologies, probably because Blu-Ray is coming out with their own 3D models too.

Interchangeable lens cameras

Cameras with interchangeable lenses are not new, but CES 2010 should be unveiling a number of compact point-and-shoot models with interchangeable lenses, great photo quality, and larger sensors.

USB 3.0 storage devices

USB 3.0 cables finally made it to the market, as well as two motherboards with USB 3.0, but the transition from USB 2.0 is not quite widespread yet. CES 2010 should see some storage solutions that use USB 3.0 and other USB 3.0-related announcements.

I love the convenience of online shopping in my bedroom, but it bugs me that most Filipino online sellers don’t have Paypal accounts or accept credit cards. Instead, they require you to pay through bank deposits or Globe outlets for Gcash, which kind of cancels out the convenience factor. US shoppers are getting an interesting iPhone accessory that will allow them to accomplish their online transactions while they’re on the go. On CES 2010, manufacturer Mophie will be unveiling a credit card reader for the iPhone. Just clip on to your iPhone, shop, an swipe! I wonder if it’s any good at keeping your credit card information private and preventing credit card fraud, but I suppose we’ll find out in a few days.

CES 2010 will be taking place on January 7 – 10 at Las Vegas, Nevada. This year, there are going to be over 2,700 exhibitors and lots of exciting new gadgets, which I’m looking forward to featuring in this blog!
