In Korea, the question “How big is your hard?” is not as kinky as it seems to be. “Hard” in Korea can refer to two things: an ice cream bar, because of the way your tongue gets stuck to a freshly opened ice cream bar, and an external hard drive. So when people ask, “How big is your hard?”, they’re probably referring to your external hard drive’s capacity. But the case of the MintPass External Drive, a Korean will actually be referring to both, because this absolutely yummy external hard drive looks deceptively like an actual ice cream bar!

Mint Hard is actually a battery-driven external hard drive and a wooden handle that serves as a USB flash drive. By plugging in the handle or digital camera into the MintHard’s USB port, you can conveniently transfer data from the memory stick straight into the hard disk drive. This is a really useful feature that I think should be mandatory for all external hard drives.

Mint Hard comes in three different flavors: Mint Hard Chocolate has a 120GB capacity and 8GB USB flash drive, Mint Hard Strawberry has a 80GB capacity and 4GB flash drive, and Mint Hard Vanilla has 60GB of space and a 2GB flash drive. All are made with high-density plastic that can withstand the bite of a person who mistakes these for an actual ice cream bar. Grab your own MintPass external HDD here.

Here’s an innovative twist to the USB drive! On the surface level, the Split Stick is a 4GB USB drive, but it’s actually separated into two 2 GB areas where you can open and store files. The idea behind the Split Stick is that it does away with the hassle of using two separate USB drives for work files and personal files, or work-safe files and not-safe-for-work files. The Split Stick comes eight different colors – blue, pink, orange, red, violet, gray, black, or green – and can even be customized by choosing your own icons or text to differentiate between the two sides.

The Split Stick is selling for $19.99 at Quirky.com, a new manufacturer with a unique way of creating products that will actually make life easier for us. Quirky.com has its own community where anyone can submit an idea for $99. Members vote on the submitted ideas and the community chooses one that will be put into development for the week. Users even have a say in naming the product, designing its logo, and planning its packaging. The product is then available for pre-order and goes into production when it receives a certain number of orders. $.30 of every dollar made goes back to everyone who was involved in the product’s creation, from the guy who submitted the idea, to those who gave their 2 cents on how to market and package it. If Quirky.Com allows any ordinary consumer to make petty cash by participating in product development, it definitely looks like something worth checking out.

The PicoDrive Beach Sandal USB is in the shape of colorful flip flops and can store 4GB worth of data.
SanDisk already has a 8GB and 16GB microSD card, and there are rumors that a 32GB microSD card is already in the works. But now the rumor mill is coming out with “news” that a 2TB card is under construction! According to the SD association, there is a new eXtended capacity memory card (SDXC) that will be released early 2009. The SDXC memory cards will have capacities starting from 32GB all the way up to 2TB and have read/write speeds of up to 104MB per second! Just to put things into perspective, 2TBs can store 480 hours of HD video recording, 100 HD movies, 130,600 fine-grade photos, and more mp3 files that you will ever need in your life. SanDisk hasn’t actually made an official statement, and this could all just be a rumor. But if a 2TB microSD card is indeed on the works, don’t expect them to hit the stores anytime soon and don’t expect them to be cheap, either!
